Behind the Lens
I have always responded to the subtle play of light in my world. I can still remember as a child playing with sun beams —those little bits of dust floating in the atmosphere late in the day when sunlight floods into a room through a window— aware of the sharp line of shadow and light on my arm as I tried to catch the tiny specks of light.
Spencer’s fascination with light led him to Los Angeles Art Center College of Design where he was to study painting, which later led to a career in film. Operating a motion picture camera was a lot more fun than standing in front of an easel all day.
In his 25-year career in Hollywood he learned from some of the greatest cinematographers in the business how to interpret and recreate the natural light he saw all around him. Equally important is having the skill to remain focused and present in every moment to the potential story unfolding before me. Being one step ahead of the action insures that important moments are not missed.
As your wedding photographer, it’s this passion and skill set as a gifted visual communicator that Spencer brings to your very special day.
Paddy has always been drawn to form and light, so when she discovered photography and filmmaking in college she was delighted to have crossed paths with her passions. After a few years shooting and editing in the news department for the ABC affiliate in Portland, Oregon, her direction finally led her to Hollywood where she had long envisioned herself working in the film industry as a camerawoman. Having worked with some of the most prominent directors of photography in the business for 24 years, she has had many mentors to whom she is grateful for sharing their skills and techniques.
Telling a story through images is Paddy’s joy. Her background in photojournalism and the make-believe of Hollywood is a perfect marriage in finding the voice and style for a couple’s photo shoot.
The thrill to be calling the shots during a wedding or engagement shoot is what keeps me coming back. There is no greater joy than to look through the lens and find all of the elements perfectly lined up… and clicking the shutter.
In addition to her caliber of skill, much of that success is the result of her engaging personality that tends to put anyone at ease, especially while photographing the most momentous day of your life. Be it the magical day of your wedding, or the sacred journey of your baby’s birth, Paddy is very present with her clients and their loved ones while capturing those moments in a naturally spontaneous style.
